The Talos Principle 2’s latest beta update adds AMD FSR 3 support

The latest beta update for The TALOS Principle 2 has added support for AMD’s FSR 3 technology to the game. This updates the game’s FSR temporal upscaler to AMD’s latest iteration, and adds support for AMD’s Frame Generation technology.

Using FSR 3 upscaling and Frame Generation can significantly improve the framerates of supported games. This allows PC gamers to achieve higher framerates on lower-end hardware, or allow gamers to target higher output resolutions on lower-end GPUs.

So far, The Talos Principle 2’s players have reported good things about this beta update. One Steam Deck user even reported achieving 80-90 FPS gameplay with FSR 3 enabled. Those are incredible results for an Unreal Engine 5 game on such low-end PC hardware.

AMD’s FSR Frame Generation technology creates additional frames that are placed in-between traditionally rendered frames. This effectively doubles the framerate of games. This enables smoother gameplay on supported games, though the technique does have a small latency penalty. Unlike Nvidia’s DLSS Frame Generation, AMD’s FSR 3 technology works on all modern GPU architectures, not just Nvidia’s RTX 40 series GPUs.

The Talos Principle 2 is the latest games to support AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology. Games that support FSR 3 today include Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Call of Duty Warzone, Call of Duty Modern Warfare III, Farming Simulator 22, and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. In 2024, we expect the adoption of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology to grow significantly.
