Modder overhauls Tomb Raider with Nvidia’s RTX Remix tech

PC gamers can now play the original Tomb Raider with RTX path tracing

A modder called “Dominus Aureate” on YouTube has released a vertical slide demo for their Open Lara RTX game mod. This mod can be installed on top of the Steam or GOG versions of Tomb Raider, allowing PC gamers to replay this classic with path traced visuals. This mod showcases how Nvidia’s RTX technology can improve classic games like Tomb Raider on PC.

Note that while this new demo uses Nvidia’s TX Remix technology, it doesn’t use Nvidia’s new RTX Remix Open Beta tools. As such, this mod does not utilise the full capabilities of RTX Remix, which can full remaster games with new assets and textures.

Below is a video showcasing Aureate’s mod in action. This mod is available to download now though ModdB.

This demo is an early example of what RTX Remix can do to classic PC games. Note that this mod doesn’t use Nvidia’s latest RTX Remix tools, or use the full RTX Remix feature set. Even so, this mod does showcase how path traced lighting can improve the look of classic PC games.
