Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade’s PC pricing is ridiculous
With the launch of Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, game prices have started to increase. Publishers have claimed that games require more time and money to develop, and inflationary forces are reducing the value of many global currencies. This is why game prices are increasing.
Square Enix has revealed Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade’s PC version, confirming that the game will be arriving next week on the Epic Games Store. The game will cost £69.99 in the UK and €79.99 in Europe, which is much higher than what most PC gamers expected.
Note that the Epic Games Store takes a lower cut of game sales than many of their competitors, and that Epic Games has likely given Square Enix concessions to secure the game as an Epic Games Store exclusive. Beyond that, the game is arriving on PC six months after the PlayStation 5 version of Intergrade, and over a year after the base game’s PS4 launch.
Not only are PC gamers getting Final Fantasy VII Remake late, they are being expected to pay the same price as the game’s PS5 version despite the fact that the PC platform has much lower distribution cost. Sony takes a larger cut of PlayStation digital sales than Epic does from their Epic Games Store. Beyond that, Square Enix will not need to pay Unreal Engine licensing fees on the Epic Games Store game sales, reducing their costs further.
There is no justifiable reason why Square Enix should be selling Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade on PC for almost £70. It is hard not to use the word greed when seeing this kind of pricing. PC gamers are getting charged the same as PS5 despite the PC version coming late and despite the fact that the game is cheaper to sell on PC and the fact that Epic has probably given Square Enix a great exclusivity deal.Â
It is hard not to feel like PC gamers are getting overcharged for Final Fantasy VII. If this is anything less than a perfect PC port, expect a lot of people to be angry with Square Enix.Â
