PUBG: Battleground is becoming free-to-play next year

PUBG is going free-to-play on January 12th

KRAFTON has confirmed that PUBG: Battlegrounds will become a free-to-play game on January 12th on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, allowing gamers on all supported platforms to access the long-lived Battle Royale in early 2022.

Alongside the game’s shift to free-to-play will come new anti-cheat features and a new premium tier called “Battlegrounds Plus”, a one-time $12.99 “account upgrade” that will allow gamers to access PUBG’s Ranked Mode, Custom Matches, additional in-game currency and exclusive in-game items. Existing owners of PUBG will get free access to “Battlegrounds Plus”.

By going free-to-play, PUBG will immediately become a lot more accessible to gamers on all supported platforms. Before now, PUBG had to compete with free-to-play Battle Royale titles like Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite, a factor that placed PUBG at a major disadvantage. PUBG currently has peak player counts of over 300,000 on Steam daily, and the game’s planned free-to-play should shoot those numbers even higher.
