AMD’s Mark Papermaster confirms that Zen 4 will be discussed at CES

AMD’s giving us a glimpse of Zen 4 at CES 2022

2022 is going to be a big year for AMD, with AMD’s V-Cache enhanced Zen 3 products coming early in the year and their all-new Zen 4 processors arriving towards the end of it.

In an interview with Forbes’ Antony Leather, AMD’s CTO, Mark Papermaster, has confirmed that the company will be discussing Zen 4 at CES 2022. That said, Papermaster also stated that more details about Zen 4 will be revealed as 2022 progresses.

With their EPYC Genoa and Bergamo series processors, AMD has already confirmed that their Zen 4 and Zen 4c architectures will be able to deliver core counts as high as 96 and 128 cores respectively. At this time, AMD has not revealed any major details about their Zen 4 cores, leaving the architectures’ improvements as unknowns.

Zen 4 will be a “completely enhanced experience”

With Zen 4, AMD’s Mark Papermaster has promised a “completely enhanced experience”. Like Zen 3, Zen 4 is likely to contain a large number of small and large architectural improvements that should allows Zen 4 to deliver higher performance levels across a variety of workloads. Papermaster expects AMD’s customers to “have a high bar pf expectation” for Zen 4, and AMD is “working hard to meet that target with Zen 4. 

While we should expect AMD to discuss Zen 4 at CES, the company’s main focus will be on their newest products. These include their V-Cache enhanced Zen 3 processors, new Ryzen Mobile CPUs, and possibly new graphics products from team Radeon.

Below is what Mark Papermaster has to say about Zen 4 and CES 2022.

   I can’t go into too many details but it will be a completely enhanced experience. At the start we had to get back to the forefront of consumers’ minds and if you want get value, go AMD. Well we wanted to go well beyond value. We wanted to offer the best performance and the best experience, so once we’d done that, we got a seat at the table with our gaming partners, our PC partners and all the way up to our server partners thanks to our leadership. We can deeply optimize for the end experience, so what customers can expect soon is ever increasing battery life, quality of service, enhanced application performance. We expect our customers to have a high bar of expectation for AMD’s next launch and we’re working hard to meet that with Zen 4.

With regards to the upcoming generation – I point to CES in January. We’re excited to be revealing some additional details on our new product launches that will deliver phenomenal experiences and as we’ve said, later in the year as it progresses we’ll share more detail on Zen 4 with some mentioned at CES and more announcements on it over the course of 2022. It will be a very exciting year for AMD.

With their V-Cache technology, AMD already plans to deliver a generational performance uplift over their existing Zen 3 processors. Papermaster describes AMD’s Zen 3 V-Cache processors as “taking a product line that we’re already proud of and put it on steroids”. At Computex 2021, AMD already showcased a 15% gaming performance uplift on average. If these performance gains apply to other workloads, AMD’s onto a winner with their V-Cache enhanced Zen 3 CPUs. 

AMD’s CES 2022 keynote will be hosted on January 4th.
