SuperMicro X13SWA-TF W790 motherboard reveals Intel’s answer to Threadripper

Intel’s High-End Desktop (HEDT) product stack is in a dire need of an upgrade, as it has not been updated since the launch of Cascade Lake, which is in itself a moderate upgrade over the Skylake-X series processors that proceeded them. Intel’s HEDT market share is been slowly eaten away by AMD’s Threadripper Pro lineup, offering users more cores, PCIe 4.0 support, and higher levels of single-threaded performance thanks AMD’s newer Zen core designs.

Rumour has it that Intel plans to retake the HEDT market with new Sapphire Rapids-WS series processors, and now Videocardz has revealed the first of Intel’s planned W790 workstation motherboards, with the model shown below being  SuperMicro’s X13SWA-TF design. This motherboard will house Intel’s 4th Generation Xeon-W series processors.

Intel’s next-generation HEDT processors are expected to offer users 8-channel memory support, support DDR5 memory, and feature PCIe 5.0 support. Intel has not officially revealed their workstation CPU plans, though we can expect to hear more before the end of Q1 2023.
