Samsung reveals its new Odyssey G9 8K/Dual-UHD 240Hz Gaming Monitor

Samsung launches the world’s first DisplayPort 2.1 monitor at CES 2023 – An 8K 240Hz Gaming Ultra-wide

At CES 2023, Samsung has showcased their latest Odyssey Neo G9 series monitor, an 240Hz 7,680×2160 gaming beast that offers users a strong dual-wide Ultra HD gaming experience with quantum mini LED display.

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 Gaming Monitor (Model Name: G95NC) is the world’s first DisplayPort 2.1 gaming monitor, offering users a 2x bandwidth boost over DisplayPort 1.4. This is what allows this screen to offer its 2x 4K resolution at a staggering 240Hz, offering gamers ultra high resolution gaming at a lightning fast refresh rate. This screen is effectively a half-height 8K gaming screen, and it measures in at 57 inches and features a 1000R curvature.

Odyssey Neo G9: The World’s First Dual UHD Gaming Monitor
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 Gaming Monitor (Model Name: G95NC) lets gamers see new levels of detail with an unparalleled field of view. The gaming monitor delivers 7,680×2,160 resolution and a 32:9 aspect ratio in one screen for the first time.

Its 1000R curved 57″ screen uses quantum mini LED technology with VESA Display HDR 1000 specification to deliver superior imaging in any gaming environment, from shadows to bright scenes. The Matte Display reduces light reflection on the screen, minimizing distractions during the most intense gaming sessions.

It also boasts the world’s first DisplayPort 2.1 support, which transfers data approximately twice as fast as the previously used DisplayPort 1.4. In addition, the new DP 2.1 allows lossless industry-standard Display Stream Compression (DSC) to transmit information without distortion.

The Odyssey Neo G9 also supports a refresh rate of 240 Hz so that gamers will not miss a thing during fast-paced gameplay.

The problem with Samsung’s new Odyssey Neo G9 Gaming Monitor (G95NC) gaming screen is that DisplayPort 2.1 is not supported by most modern gaming graphics cards. Even Nvidia’s recently launched RTX 40 series graphics cards lack DisplayPort 2.1 support. That said, AMD’s RX 7000 series graphics cards do support DisplayPort 2.1, making this display fully usable with AMD’s latest graphics cards.

Sadly, Samsung has not revealed retail pricing or a planned release date for their new Odyssey G9 Neo display. We expect to hear more about this absurd gaming screen later this year.
