Baldur’s Gate 3’s PC system requirements have been increased ahead of its August release

Baldur’s Gate 3 release through Steam Early Access in 2020, and since then the game has been refined, expanded, and improved in a myriad of ways. As a current-generation-only game, Baldur’s Gate 3’s system requirements are higher than average, and this was not reflected in the game’s original 2020 Early Access system requirements. As such, Larain Studios, the game’s developer, has decided to increase the game’s PC system requirements ahead of the title’s August 31st launch.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s system requirements have been increased due to the game’s increased graphical fidelity and complexity over its original early access build, and reflects how the PC hardware ecosystem has changed over the past few years. Now, Baldur’s Gate 3 has higher CPU requirements, GPU requirements, and storage requirements, with the game requiring 150GB of storage space.

Today, Baldur’s Gate’s minimum GPU requirements are now similar to the game’s original recommended GPU requirements, with Nvidia’s GTX 970 and AMD’s RX 480 being the game’s minimum graphics cards. Now, Larain Studios recommends AMD’s RX 5700 XT graphics card and Nvidia’s RTX 2060 Super graphics card, both of which have 8GB of VRAM.

With Baldur’s Gate 3 now targeting current-generation consoles, it makes sense for the game’s PC version to no longer target low-end PC hardware. By today’s standards, Nvidia’s GTX 780 and AMD’s R9 280X are too low-end for many modern games, and neither are supported by the latest AMD or Nvidia GPU driver releases. It makes a lot of sense for Larain Studios to raise the minimum bar for Baldur’s Gate, especially now that more powerful hardware is commonly available at reasonable prices.

Minimum:
