Want to play Resident Evil 4’s remake before launch? Now’s your chance

Resident Evil 4’s remake is launching on March 24th, and Capcom has released a new “Chainsaw Demo” for the game on all platforms. Unlike prior Resident Evil demos, this demo is now time-limited, which means that gamers can play it as much as they want ahead of the full game’s release later this month.

Resident Evil 4’s Chainsaw Demo starts shortly after the opening of the game, when Leon is entering a mysterious village, and as the demo’s name suggests, yes, there will be a chainsaw involved somewhere.

The original 2005 version of Resident Evil 4 is a classic, pioneering many of the staples that are still used by modern 3rd person shooters today. It can be argued that Resident Evil 4 doesn’t need a remake, as the original game still plays well, and does not require the complete overhaul that Resident Evil 2/3 needed with their modern remakes.

With Resident Evil 4’s remake, Capcom aims to deliver something that is “fresh but familiar” to fans of the franchise. Poorly aged elements like quick-time events have been minimised, and much of the original game’s goofiness remains present. Let’s just hope that Resident Evil 4 has not lost its spirit with its transition to modern consoles.

Resident Evil 4 will be launching on March 24th on PC (through Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Strangely, the game will not be coming to Xbox One, likely due the the comparatively low performance of the Xbox One compared to PS4.
