Nvidia’s RTX 4070 pricing and release/review dates leak

It sounds like Nvidia’s targeting a $749 price point for their RTX 4070  

Thanks to Videocardz, we have gotten a look at the planned release date and review dates for Nvidia’s RTX 4070 graphics cards, with Nvidia targeting April 13th for their RTX 4070 launch.

In their leaked embargo timeline, Nvidia appears to be splitting the review dates of their RTX 4070 graphics cards between “MSRP” models on April 12th, and “non-MSRP” models on April 13th. This review schedule is typical for modern Nvidia launches, and ensures that the earliest product reviews for Nvidia’s RTX 4070 exclusively discuss the value proposition of the graphics card with the GPU’s MSRP price, which is effectively the minimum price of the graphics card.

According to new information from Moore’s Law is Dead, Nvidia are planning to set the MSRP of their RTX 4070 at $749, with custom/non-MSRP RTX 4070 GPUs having prices that start from $799.

At launch, Nvidia’s RTX 3070 had an MSRP price of $499, making Nvidia’s RTX 4070 $250 (50%) more expensive. Assuming that these pricing rumours are true, Nvidia may have a hard time convincing gamers that their RTX 4070 is well priced, especially given the RTX 3080’s launch price of $699. I can already visualise commenters angrily typing about an 70-class Nvidia GPU costing over $700. 

Nvidia’s RTX 4070 is due to launch with 12GB of GDDR6 memory, giving the graphics card a frame buffer that is 50% larger than its predecessor. The graphics card is also due to support DLSS 3, which is a major perk of Nvidia’s RTX 40 series graphics cards. These upgrades will make the RTX 4070 a lot more appealing than its predecessor, though it remains to be seen how gamers will react to Nvidia’s rumoured pricing. To say the least, I hoped that Nvidia would price their RTX 4070 more aggressively.
