EA’s removing Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge from sale due to server closures

Update – EA has removed Mirror’s Edge from the list of games that they plan to delist from digital storefronts on April 28th.

EA has today announced that they will be removing Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge from sale on digital storefronts, preventing gamers from purchasing these titles. EA has stated that the closure of online services is their reason for the removal of these four games, but this reason makes no sense given the fact that three of these for games have single player campaigns, and that Mirror’s Edge is a single-player only game.

While Battlefield 1943’s removal from sale makes sense, as it is a multiplayer only game that relies on its servers, the removal of Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge from sale doesn’t. For starters, the Battlefield: Bad Company series have great single player campaigns, and Mirror’s Edge’s online component is an online leaderboard, not a full-on multiplayer mode.

By removing the Battlefield: Bad Company series and Mirrors Edge from sale, EA are erasing parts of their history needlessly. These games can live on despite their planned server closures, and all EA would need to do is simply edit their retail listings to state that their online components are no longer available.

As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company™ 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end.

Starting April 28 2023, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge will be removed from digital storefronts and you will no longer be able to purchase them. This is in preparation for the retirement of the online services for these titles which will happen on December 8 2023. For Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge, you can still continue playing them and use their respective offline features, such as the single player campaign. You can also read our FAQ and Service Updates for further information on the retirement of online services.

While these titles hold a special place in our heart, we’re now looking forward to creating new memories alongside you as we shift our focus towards our current and future Battlefield experiences.

EA's removing three Battlefield games and Mirror's Edge from sale, and their reasoning makes zero sense

Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge are due to be removed from sale on April 28th 2023 ahead of the server closures for these games on December 8th 2023. We hope that EA reconsiders removing Battlefield: Bad Company 1 & 2 and Mirror’s Edge from sale, as these are great games that do not deserve this treatment.
