MSI teases 9-12% performance gains with AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D with optimisations

MSI achieves notable performance gains with Ryzen 7 7800X3D system tweaks

The hardware leaker chi11eddog has released pre-launch details about AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D, specifically, a Zen 4 tweaking guide that showcases the performance gains that are possible by optimising your system using MSI’s motherboard settings. 

Below, MSI’s leaked guide reveals that 9-12% performance gains are possible at 1080p with a Ryzen 7800X3D based system when using an RTX 4090 graphics card, highlighting the impact of memory performance and motherboard options can have on game performance. MSI has showcased the impact of enabling AMD EXPO with DDR5-6000 memory (compared with stock DDR5-5200 speeds), High Efficiency Mode, and Enhanced Mode Boost 3.

In some games, the impact of these changes are minimal, but for some games notable performance gains are possible. These gains showcase increases in the average framerates of games, and it is probable that these motherboard/memory changes will have a larger impact on the lower percentile framerates of some games.

The system used for the testing above used an MSI X670E TOMAHAWK motherboard with an RTX 4090 graphics card and DDR5-6000 Kingston Fury memory. 

If there is anything to take away from these results, it is that AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D processor should be used with fast DDR5-6000 memory, and that some motherboard settings could increase the performance of your Ryzen based PCs.  

While performance gains of up to 9-12% do not sound like much, they highlight the fact that settings tweaking has the potential to deliver notable performance gains in modern PCs. While the old school era of overclocking may be coming to an end, there are still ways for system tweakers to grab more performance from their systems.
