AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D drops to its lowest ever price ahead of AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D launch

AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D is launching tomorrow, upgrading AMD’s 8-core Zen 4 product offering with 3D V-Cache, accelerating workloads that benefit from faster on-CPU memory access. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is AMD’s premiere gaming processor, offering users eight powerful Zen 4 cores alongside the benefits of AMD’s 3D die stacking technology.

While the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the new hotness, its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, remains a solid option for gamers who currently own an AM4-based gaming PC. AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D is supported on most AMD AM4 motherboards (through BIOS updates), making AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D a great value purchasing option for gamers on AM4. AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D needs a new AM5 motherboard and DDR5 DRAM to function, but a Ryzen 7 5800X3D just needs a BIOS update. 

The incoming launch of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D has caused 5800X3D prices to drop, with Amazon UK listing the CPU for £294.97. That’s a lot lower than AMD’s $449.99 MSRP for their Ryzen 7 7800X3D. 

While the Ryzen 7 7800X3D will be a faster processor (it is the next-gen version of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D after all), the Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains a great value option for PC builders that are still on AM4. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is around £150 cheaper than its successor, it doesn’t require a motherboard upgrade (if you are already on AM4) and doesn’t need new DDR5 memory modules to function. If you don’t demand the latest hardware of the most bleeding edge performance levels, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a solid upgrade option for any gamer with an AM4 motherboard.

While AMD’s Ryzen 7 7800X3D will no doubt be a huge seller for AMD, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains as a solid option for gamers. By the time most PC gamers will need to move on from a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, it is probable that AM5 motherboards (and DDR5 memory) will be more affordable, and AMD will have something even better gaming CPU than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D to upgrade to. That said, if you want the best gaming CPU available, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D isn’t it.
