Nvidia’s RTX 3060 is now the most popular GPU on Steam

If you have ever looked at the Steam Hardware survey, you will know that Nvidia has a dominant position within the GPU market. Currently, as or Steam’s March 2023 survey, 82.63% of Steam users use an Nvidia graphics card and 10.82% use AMD GPUs. Intel GPUs account for 6.33% of Steam users, though it is worth remembering that AMD and Intel’s values include integrated graphics solutions.

This month, Nvidia’s RTX 3060 has become the most commonly used graphics card on Steam, surpassing Nvidia’s RTX 2060 and GTX 1060. Nvidia’s RTX 3060 is currently used by 10.44% of Steam users, which is almost as many Steam users as all AMD GPU users. While Steam’s hardware survey cannot be seen as a totally accurate account of the hardware of all Steam users, it remains a useful tool for developers when choosing what PC hardware to target their games for.

Steam’s hardware survey also contains a lot of useful data on the hardware used by PC gamers, showcasing that 73.95% of Steam users use Windows 10 while 22.41% use Windows 11. 45.76% of Steam users now use CPUs with six cores, a further 18.45% use CPUs with eight cores, and 4.62% of Steam user have a CPU with 12 cores. Another noteworthy data point is that 56.92% of Steam users have 16GB of system memory, and that 22.41% of steam users have 32GB of memory within their systems.

If you look at Steam’s other figures, you can see that around 95% of Steam users have a DirectX 12 complaint graphics card, which makes sense given how common DirectX 12 games are today.

CPU-wise, most Steam users are using Intel CPUs, with Intel CPUs accounting for 74.46% of Steam users. AMD CPUs are used by 25.54% of Steam users. Based on Steam’s CPU and GPU data, it looks like most Steam users are using Intel processors with Nvidia GeForce graphics cards.
