Colorful RTX 4060 Ti Ultra OC Specs leak - Is 8GB of VRAM enough?

It looks like Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti will ship with 8GB of VRAM

Thanks to T4C Fantasy, the PC enthusiast that currently maintains the TechPowerUp GPU database, specifications for Colorful’s planned RTX 4060 Ti Ultra OC have been leaked onto the web, with T4C Fantasy reporting a 2580 MHz boost clock speed for the graphics card.

With a boost clock of 2580 MHz, Colorful’s RTX 4060 Ti Ultra OC will have a boost clock speed that’s reportedly 45MHz faster than Nvidia’s reference design, and according to another Tweet from T4C Fantasy, the graphics card will ship with 8GB of VRAM (likely GDDR6X). It is likely that this VRAM will be delivered on a GPU with a 128-bit memory bus.

With only 8GB of memory, Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti graphics card will feature 33% less memory than Nvidia’s RTX 4070 graphics card, and no more memory than the company’s last-generation RTX 3060 Ti graphics card. With the RTX 3060 Ti sporting a 258-bit memory bus, it is probable that Nvidia’s new RTX 4060 Ti will feature less raw memory bandwidth than its predecessor, thanks to this narrower memory bus.

As more and more modern PC games begin to struggle on GPUs with 8GB of VRAM, Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti may be seen as a poor upgrade choice for forward-looking PC gamers. That said, it remains to be seen if AMD’s lower-end RDNA 3 GPUs will feature more VRAM than their Nvidia counterparts, or if Nvidia will make a change to their RTX 4060 Ti’s specifications to give gamers more VRAM.
