Capcom Restores Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3’s Ray Tracing Options

Capcom Restores Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3's Ray Tracing Options

Ray tracing has returned to Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3

Thanks to a bug that was introduced with Resident Evil 2/3’s April 14th update, the game’s ray tracing options disappeared from both games, effectively giving both games a graphical downgrade. Once Capcom were made aware of the bug, the company confirmed the issue and started work on a fix, and now, ray tracing has returned to both games.

While neither Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 3 launched with support for ray tracing, both games gained support for the feature when the game were upgraded on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 with the release of “next-gen” patches for both games. These patches enabled 60 FPS gameplay for players on current-generation consoles, and added ray tracing options to the game on PC and current-generation consoles. This made the loss of these options hugely disappointing for many PC gamers, especially those with powerful ray tracing compatible hardware.

Now, less than a week after the game’s April 14th patch, Capcom has fixed the bug that removed ray tracing from Resident Evil 2/3’s remakes. PC gamers will be able to update their copies of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 the next time they log into Steam.
