ASUS ROG X Evangelion Project EVA-02
ROG x Evangelion Motherboard and AIO
ROG Maximus Z790 Hero EVA-O2 Edition
If you’re curious as to how the vanilla version of the Z790 Maximus Hero performed you can read all about it by clicking those words. The box gives a glimpse as to the efforts ASUS have applied. Nothing will prepare you for the motherboard itself though.
Just look at it. They absolutely could’ve just added an EVA sticker and sold by the bucketful. Not so. Even the PCB is custom designed. It’s spectacular. As a massive fan of the franchise, and Asuka in particular, we’re overcome with want. Desire factor 10. After all, I’m a living, breathing person with feelings.
In the words of Asuka herself, “By the way, I like the red colour”. It’s crazy how much attention to detail has gone into the design. Even if you’ve never heard of Evangelion before, the work here will at least clue you in to how big it is. It might not quite be up there with Cowboy Bebop but it’s close. Certainly the cultural impact cannot be denied.
Even the backplate has a EVA 2 logo. ASUS design team have really gone to town.
We do have to mention that there is a tiny typo on the IO section, where is says Evangenlion instead of Evangelion. ASUS are aware of the issue and will offer a replacement as well as a years extended warranty. As it doesn’t light up, and even knowing it was there we had to peer real hard to spot it, we’d not bother ourselves for such a tiny oversight. But it’s worth noting. At least they’ve immediately offered every fix you could hope for.
ROG Ryujin III 360 ARGB AIO Asuka Langley
Like most of the hardware that has seen Asuka plastered across it today, we’ve reviewed the Ryujin III AIO too.
This, almost more than anything else here today, is the centrepiece of the ASUS ROG x Evangelion collection in pure design terms. Red fans, red pump, EVA 2 logos, and the graphics that have been found at the top of every page. It’s a commitment to the cause. Heck the fans are so gorgeous we imagine there will be a few of these sold for people who just want fans that aren’t black or white.
Even the radiator has a ROG x Evangelion logo on it. It does make us wonder why companies are so determined to give us black fans when the red ones are so eye-popping. There must be a market for a range of coloured hardware like this.
