The Future Games Show highlights the power of Unreal Engine 5 at their Summer Showcase

The Future Games Show highlights a variety of vistas and demo projects created using Unreal Engine 5

At the Future Games Show, the power of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 game engine by showcased as part of a new segment called “Unreal 5 Showcase”. Here a verity of Unreal Engine 5 projects, tech demos, and vistas were showcased to highlight the visuals that are possible using the engine with modern gaming hardware.

This showcase was not organised or put together by Epic Games, but knowing that Epic’s Unreal Engine 5 will be the engine behind many future AAA and indie games, the Future Games Show took it upon itself to showcase what is possible using Epic’s technology, and we are impressed with what the Unreal Engine 5 community has delivered. This is a look at the future of gaming graphics, and it looks epic.

The environments showcased in the video below were inspired by by games and settings like The Witcher 3, Call of Cthulhu, the Fifth Element, and more, while other settings are unique to their artists. 

So far, Unreal Engine 5 has not been utilised to deliver this level of graphical fidelity on any shipping games on PC and current-gen consoles. This is both due to the long development cycles of modern games and the relatively newness of Unreal Engine 5, and the fact that many of the demos showcased below were created on top of the line gaming PCs, systems that are much more powerful than PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. Even so, these demos showcase what we may see in the future from current generation systems, an Unreal Engine 5 is optimised with future updates and developers learn to make the most of current-generation hardware.   

Unreal Engine 5 has not been used to ship many major PC or console games, though that is expected to change over the next few years. Now, major game developers have had the time to develop full games using Unreal Engine 5, and that means that gamers should expect to see an explosion of new Unreal Engine 5 game releases. Let’s hope that their visuals are as impressive as these tech demos.
