EA’s splitting itself into two, separating sports from everything else

Big changes are coming to EA, with CEO Andrew Wilson confirming that the company will be splitting into two separate organisations, EA Sports, and EA Entertainment, both of which would report directly to him.

Wilson hopes that this internal shake-up will help drive growth and empower their studio leaders by giving them more creative ownership, financial accountability, and the ability to make faster and more insightful decisions moving forward. Laura Miele has been appointed as the president of EA Entertainment, and Cam Weber has been named as the head of EA Sports.

This move from EA will see the company’s structure get re-organised over the next few months, and the hope is that these organisational changes will result in long-term growth for EA and allow the company to accelerate many of its internal processes.

Within EA Entertainment, Vince Zampella will remain the responsible for Apex Legends, EA’s Star Wars games, and the Battlefield franchise, Samantha Ryan will focus on leading “lifestyle franchises” and “blockbuster single-player experiences”, and Jeff Karp will continue to lead mobile game development.

It will take years for EA’s altered organisational structure will have a real impact on the games that EA make, and we hope that this split between EA Entertainment and EA Sports will have a positive impact on EA as a company and its games.
