Valve’s Steam Deck hits a major milestone with over 10,000 Verified or Playable games

Valve’s Steam Deck handheld now officially supports over 10,000 PC games  

With every update, Valve’s Steam Deck has been optimised and improved to support more and more PC games, resulting in more games being rated as either “Playable” or “Verified” each and every month. On top of that, game developers are now optimising their latest titles with Steam Deck in mind, which means that game updates can also help titles reach “Verified” status. 

Now, Valve’s Steam Deck has over 3,500 Verified titles and over 6,600 games that are listed as Playable. That means that PC gamers can now enjoy over 10,000 PC titles on Valve’s Linux-powered Steam Deck, showcasing the huge levels of game compatibility that the handheld offers. 

Valve’s Steam Deck relies on a compatibility layer called Proton to run Windows games on its custom Linux OS. Currently, 3,142 games on Steam are listed as “Unsupported” on Steam Deck, as these titles are considered unplayable on the device. This list in artificially inflated by VR titles, as Valve’s Steam Deck is not VR compatible, but many popular games like Batman: Arkham City, are also included in this list.

For games to be Steam Deck Verified, games need to meet the below criteria:

– Input – Titles should have full controller support, use appropriate controller input icons, and automatically bring up the on-screen keyboard when needed.
– Display – The game should support the default resolution of Steam Deck (1280×800 or 1280×720), have good default settings, and text should be legible.
– Seamlessness – The title shouldn’t display any compatibility warnings, and if there’s a launcher it should be navigable with a controller.
– System Support – If running through Proton, the game and all its middleware should be supported by Proton. This includes anti-cheat support.

Valve’s Steam Deck PC gaming handheld has been a triumph. The device has sold well and the handheld’s software has only gotten better over time. More games than ever are supported by the system, and PC developers are creating games with Valve’s Handheld in mind. Some games, like Cyberpunk 2077, even ship with Steam Deck specific graphical presets.
