Sony fixes Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection’s PC stuttering issues with update 1.4

While 2023 is now well known as the year or poorly optimised PC releases, it is worth noting that this trend did not start with the new year. There were a lot of poor quality PC releases in the latter half of 2022, one of which was Sony’s Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which contains the PC versions of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

The PC version of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection was worked on by Naughty Dog and Iron Galaxy, the same studios that delivered the lacklustre PC version of The Last of Us: Part 1. Thankfully, game patches have improved the PC version of Uncharted and The Last of Us, addressing many of the major issues with each game.

With update 1.4 for the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Naughty Dog and Iron Galaxy have finally fixed the camera stuttering/juddering issues that the game possessed when played with keyboard and mouse. Oddly, this bug was also present in The Last of Us: Part 1’s PC version, though it was fixed earlier than now.

Prior to this update, Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection did not play smoothly with keyboard and mouse, and before this update PC gamers had to play the collection with a controller to avoid this issue. Thankfully, this issue has now been addressed, though it has not been addressed soon enough.

Naughty Dog finally fixes Uncharted's PC stuttering issues with a new update

Sony launched Naughty Dog’s Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection on PC on October 19th 2022, and the game’s well documented camera jitter bug was not fixed until July 2023. It is shameful that this issue was not addressed at an earlier date, though it is good to know that the issue has finally been addressed.

Update 1.4 for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection also ass new mouse smoothing level settings to the game and new audio compatibility options for players.

Patch Notes – Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection Update 1.4

– Improvement to address camera jitter experienced by some mouse and keyboard users
– Added a new menu option to allow users to adjust the smoothing level of mouse movement (Options > Controls > Mouse Smoothing)
– Added new Audio Compatibility options (Options > Audio > Compatibility)
   – Output Mode: Adjust which sounds are played through the OS spatial sound driver. Select different settings if you experience muffled, missing, or unusually quiet audio. If you are experiencing abnormally quiet music or dialogue during cutscenes, for example, try the Spatial mode instead of the Hybrid default.
   – Latency: Adjust the short period of delay between when a sound effect is requested and when it plays. Higher latency improves reliability of audio playback, especially on lower spec CPUs. Increase this value if you are experiencing pops, clicks, or distorted sound. Higher latencies also resolve issues with audio interfaces configured with large buffer sizes and some wireless headphones. Note: You must restart the game for the change to take effect.
