Is your system ready? Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's PC system requirements have landed

Here’s what you need to run PlayStation’s next PC release, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart

Nixxes Software and Insomniac Games have released their official PC system requirements for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the newest game to transition from Sony’s PlayStation 5 console to PC. The game is due to launch on PC on July 26th through both the Epic Games Store and Steam, and the game will feature more advanced graphical options on PC than the game’s original PlayStation 5 release.

Nixxes Software are the studio behind the PC versions of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, both of which have solid PC versions. With this in mind, we do not expect Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to have a sub-par PC version, like Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 1 was at launch.

Despite the game’s PlayStation 5 exclusivity at launch, the PC version of Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart can run on surprisingly low-end hardware on PC, albeit with “Very Low” graphical settings at 720p 30 FPS. For these resolution, settings, and framerate targets. Rift Apart requires a graphics card like Nvidia’s GTX 960, or AMD’s RX 470, and a CPU like Intel’s i3-8100 or AMD’s Ryzen 3 3100. Both of these CPUs are quad-core CPUs.

If you are targeting 1080p 60 FPS, much higher-end hardware is recommended, including SSD storage, 6-core processors like AMD’s Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel’s i5-8400, and graphics cards like AMD’s RX 5700 or Nvidia’s RTX 2060. 16GB of system memory is also recommended. This hardware configuration is intended for 1080p 60 FPS performance at medium settings.

As users crank up Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart’s resolution and graphical settings, the game’s PC hardware requirements rise further, with ray tracing making the game significantly more taxing. Unlike most games, it looks like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart’s ray tracing settings perform similarly on AMD and Nvidia systems, with AMD’s RX 6800 XT being listed alongside an Nvidia RTX 3070 with their “Amazing Ray Tracing” specs and AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XTX being listed alongside Nvidia’s RTX 4080 under the game’s “Ultimate Ray Tracing” settings.

While Rift Apart can run on PCs using HDD storage, Insomniac Games recommends SSD storage at all of their performance/settings tiers. Rift Apart made heavy use of the PlayStation 5’s SSD, and it is possible that slower storage mediums could create loading time stutters or other issues in game in some areas.

Alongside ray tracing, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s PC players are expected to utilise upscaling technologies like DLSS and FSR to boost the game’s performance on PC. Ray tracing in Rift Apart will come in the form of ray traced reflections, ray traced shadows, and ray traced ambient occlusion.
