In China, a new AMD Radeon graphics card has launched called the RX 7900 GRE (Golden Rabbit Edition), a new Navi 31 based RDNA 3 graphics card that boasts 16GB of GDDR6 memory.

Today, thanks to @wxnod on Twitter, we have gotten a glimpse of Sapphire’s Nitro version of AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 GRE, with the graphics card appearing to feature two 8-pin PCIe power connectors, and a triple-slot heatsink design.

At this time, it is uncertain if AMD has plan to release this new Navi 31 graphics card outside of China, though we do know some of the specifications of this graphics card. With 84 Compute Units and 5376 stream processors, AMD’s RX 7900 GRE is in some ways identical to AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 XT, though the RX 7900 GRE features a smaller 256-bit memory bus and only 16GB of GDDR6 memory. In contrast, AMD’s RX 7900 XT features 20GB of GDDR6 memory over a 320-bit memory bus.

Sadly, we do not know the clock speeds or power target of AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 GRE, though it is probable that this graphics card has lower clock speeds and a lower power target than their Radeon RX 7900 XT.

On paper, AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 GRE appears to be an incredibly capable graphics card, though at this time it is unclear how it compares to AMD’s RX 7900 XT and Nvidia’s RTX 40 series GPUs in games. With the same CU count as a Radeon RX 7900 XT, gamers should expect strong performance from this graphics card, especially if they can overclock the GPU’s core to RX 7900 XT speeds. That said, this GPU’s smaller memory bus will constrain performance in memory bandwidth limited workloads.

AMD’s RDNA 3 GPU lineup has a huge gap between their Radeon RX 7600 and Radeon RX 7900 XT, a gap that has room for a large selection of mid-range GPU offerings. AMD are reportedly preparing to release Radeon RX 7700 and RX 7800 series graphics cards this summer, filling in this gap, though it remains unclear if AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 GRE will ever be launched outside of China.
