Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launches on PC with Steam Deck verification

Ahead of the game’s launch on PC, Nixxes Software has announced that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is Steam Deck verified, which means that PC gamers will be able to play the game without any issues on Valve’s Steam Deck handheld gaming system.

Having Steam Deck verification at launch is no small achievement for a PlayStation 5 exclusive, with The Last of Us Part 1, Sony’s last PlayStation 5 to PC conversion, requiring a large number of patches and optimisations to achieve Steam Deck verified status.

Games can only become Steam Deck verified after passing Valve’s testing, confirming that the game can run on Valve’s handheld gaming system with reasonable framerates and without any major bugs or other issues. Verified games must also be fully playable with the Steam Deck’s built-in gamepad, requiring no keyboard inputs to operate.

Currently, it is unknown how well Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart runs on Valve’s Steam Deck handheld, though it is likely that Steam Deck users will only be able to play Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on Steam Deck at 30 FPS and at lower than PlayStation 5 graphical settings. Ray tracing is almost certainly off the table for Steam Deck, as are the game’s “beyond PlayStation 5” graphical settings.

Steam Deck verification is a clear sign that Nixxes and Insomniac Games have done a great job optimising Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s PC version, and that the game will be playable on lower-end PCs without much difficulty.
