Chinese manufacturer PELADN gives AMD’s Radeon RX 6500 XT an 8GB memory upgrade

PELADN has doubled the Radeon RX 6500 XT’s memory config

When AMD launched their Radeon RX 6500 XT, a common complaint about the graphics card was its lacklustre 4GB frame buffer and its meagre 64-bit memory bus. At launch many gamers called out for an 8GB version, an upgrade that would make the game more able to handle the increasing memory requirements of modern games. Sadly, 8GB Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics card were not pushed by AMD, leaving the low-end GPU market with 4GB graphics cards that are hard to recommend. 

Now the Chinese company PELADN has created a new Radeon RX 6500 XT model that features an upgraded 8GB memory configuration. This gives gamers access to two times as much memory as standard Radeon RX 6500 XT graphics cards, though it is worth noting that this upgraded GPU still has a 64-bit memory bus, so this GPU model’s additional VRAM does not come with a memory bandwidth upgrade.

Out of the box, PELADN’s Radeon RX 6500 XT features a full cover backplate, a dual-fan heatsink, and a small factory overclock. At stock, AMD’s Radeon RX 6500 XT has Game/Boost clock speeds of 2685/2825 MHz, and PELADN’s 8GB model has 2695/2855 MHz Game/Boost clock speeds.

Don’t buy this graphics card

At launch, AMD’s Radeon RX 6500XT was an underpowered graphics card, and adding an extra 4GB of VRAM to the graphics card does not change that. While the added VRAM is a good addition, this GPU’s small memory bus makes this GPU lacking in the bandwidth department, and this GPU’s memory upgrade does nothing to address that.

Gamers who are looking for a new graphics card should look at higher-end graphics cards that offer gamers more compute performance and more memory bandwidth. Yes, this will require some additional saving, but you will get a stronger graphics card that will better stand the test of time.
