Baldur’s Gate 3 becomes one of Steam’s most played games on day-1

Baldur's Gate 3 breaks past 500,000 concurrent players on Steam on day-1

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now one on the most played games on Steam

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available on PC, and the Dungeons & Dragons based RPG has quickly become one of Steam’s most played game, achieving the platform’s number 3 spot with over 500,000 concurrent players at the time of writing.

Right now, only Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and DOTA 2 have more concurrent players, with Baldur’s Gate 3 being less than 50,000 players behind DOTA 2. Currently, Baldur’s Gate 3 has more players than Apex Legends and PUBG: Battlegrounds combined, Steam’s 4th and 5th most played games.

To say the least, Baldur’s Gate 3’s PC launch has been a huge success, and Steam’s player counts for the game don’t event include the game’s players on other PC platforms like GOG.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s popularity can be explained by the growth of the Dungeons and Dragons franchise, which exploded following the release of D&D 5th Edition. Earlier this year, the Dungeons and Dragons movie was hugely successful in cinemas, a factor that has likely created a lot of demand for new D&D content.
