Starfield pre-load dataminers find no trace of DLSS or XeSS within the game

It looks like AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution tech will be Starfield’s exclusive upscaling option on PC

AMD is Bethesda’s official PC hardware partner for Starfield, and it is known that the game will support AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology on both PC and Xbox Series X/S at launch. Now that the game’s available to pre-load on PC, dataminers have been busy looking into Starfield’s game code to see if alternative upscaling solutions will be supported, like Nvidia and Intel’s AI-based DLSS and XeSS upscalers. Sadly, data miners have found no trace of either of these upscalers.

While AMD have not released a clear statement on this issue, it is true that most AMD-sponsored PC releases lack support for Nvidia’s DLSS and Intel’s XeSS upscaling technologies. These games support AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology exclusively, and while AMD’s FSR tech works with non-AMD graphics cards, DLSS and XeSS both tend to deliver better upscaling results when used with Nvidia and Intel GPUs respectively. As such, a lot of gamers are annoyed at AMD for becoming Bethesda’s PC hardware partner for Starfield, as it is believed that AMD are effectively locking out support for alternative upscaling solutions.

Rumour has it that AMD plans to make Starfield one of the first PC games to support the company’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 technology, AMD’s long awaited competitor to Nvidia’s DLSS 3 Frame Generation technology. With Starfield, AMD wants to push their FidelityFX Super Resolution technology hard, and there are hopes that AMD will reveal an updated version of FSR at Gamescom later this month, addressing FSR’s quality concerns when compared with DLSS.

For now, it looks like Starfield will launch with AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution technology exclusively. That said, there are PC modders who have added DLSS 2 and DLSS 3 support to games in the past, and it is probable that similar mods will be made for Starfield shortly after the game’s launch.
