PC gamers are already running Red Dead Redemption’s Switch version on PC using emulators

PC gamers now have two new ways to play Red Dead Redemption on PC, but what is the best way?

Last week, Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 4 and Switch, bringing the game to two new platforms with relatively few changes when compared to their original PS3/Xbox 360 era counterparts. The game is locked to 30 FPS on both platform, with the PS4 versions feature improved anti-aliasing, which improves the look of the game on PlayStation consoles.

Since Rockstar has failed to release Red Dead Redemption on PC, gamers have worked to find other ways to play Red Dead Redemption on their preferred gaming platform. Using the Yuzu and Ryujinx emulators, Red Dead Redemption’s Switch version is now available to play on PC, with both emulators having the ability to run the game at with unlocked framerates.

At launch, both emulators were not able to run Red Dead Redemption on PC without issues, with Yuzu only running the game using its OpenGL codepath (which runs slower than its Vulkan codepath), while Ryujinx ran the game at a higher framerate under Vulkan but had graphical issues when rendering the game’s grass and foloage. Thankfully, this latter issue with Ryujinx has been addressed with a emualtor hotfix.

At the time of writing, Red Dead Redemption does not run perfectly on PC through Switch emulation, but both Ryujinx and Yuzu are expected to receive updates that will increase the playability of Red Dead Redemption in the near future. That said, Xbox 360 emulation though Xenia appears to be the best way to play Red Dead Redemption on PC at the time of writing, though advances in Switch emulation should change that.

Right now, PC gamers can run the Xbox 360 Red Dead Redemption using Xenia at 4K 60 FPS with powerful enough hardware.
